Night Beach III is inspired by the coastline of South Devon and Cornwall. It shows a large wave cresting, lit by evening lights turning the waves turquoise and with deep blue and emerald shadows.? It is late at night the sea is a dark midnight blue. There are distant lights from a town across the water in the background and white foam detail in the foreground churned up by the waves mixing with the pale yellow sand.
I like to work in oils because of their versatility. You can layer the paint so that it has a translucency. Also It is so robust a medium I can scrape the paint back or scratch into it too. This is another in my series of wave paintings which I started 5 years ago and numbering 50.
I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. My exhibitions have been throughout Devon and one of my films was been exhibited at the South Bank, London and in Italy. I am a Teignmouth based artist.
In conclusion, I am a member of the Devon Artist Network and a Geopark Ambassador Artist for the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark.
