Inspiration
I am an oil painter inspired by the energy of the seas. Studying film and fine art at the University of Plymouth has influenced the way I paint. It is important to me to include a sense of movement and escapism in my work. Having moved permanently to Devon 18 years ago it is the Devon and Cornwall coastline that still inspire me
My seascape series of paintings have evolved over the years. I am keen to explore the force of the ocean, the light coming through the waves and the ever changing colour of the sea.
For my work I like to use oil paint. This medium is very versatile allowing you to add thick impasto layers or more fluid translucent ones. As a result this medium is very useful when you want to capture ocean waves in all their forms and variety of colours. Also it is such robust a medium I can scrape the paint back or scratch into it too for added texture.
I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. I have exhibited my paintings throughout Devon and gained an award at the Exeter Short Film festival. My films and photographs have been exhibited on the South Bank, London and in Italy. I am a Geopark Ambassador Artist for the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark.
